The Intro

Edelman Financial Engines is financial planning and investment management firm. The company provides access to in-person financial advisors that help develop a unique plan customized to the individual while also providing scenario planning for retirement, large purchases, college, and other life moments.

The Vision

Create a unique, cohesive experience that aligns itself with strengthening and augmenting the advisor / client relationship. The experience should be straight-forward, provide clarity, transparency, and avoid sophisticated financial terminology.

Prospect Portal

The prospect portal was designed to help create a seamless digital experience for collecting important personal and financial information prior to meeting with a planner. Prospective customers are are given a rundown on what to expect in their first meeting as well as more information about the company.

Client Portal

Once a customer, user’s are given access to the client portal where they can link and manage accounts, view performance, receive planner recommendations, upload documents, and more.

Website

Provided an updated, modern experience showcasing various financial planning services. We helped develop the concept of providing a peek into unique life moments while showing divergent paths as they unfold.

Guiding Principles

We adhered to three main principles when designing the client experience.

Supplement The Planner

The focus should be on aiding the planner instead of creating a fully self-service experience.

Emphasize Transparency

Clarity and transparency on all levels when dealing with client money.

Human Plus+

The planner should be accessible and guide the client through the experience while providing assurance.

Account Performance

Performance Visualization

Graph visualizations provide a high level overview of how customer’s managed accounts are performing while also providing additional ways to access more rich, extensive details.

Testing showed users had issues understanding things like Net deposits and Market performance.

We focused on creating an experience that would provide additional clarity around account performance and greatly simplify complex financial concepts.
